Jhal Muri / Mudhi

Jhal Muri / Mudhi is a delicious and very famous Snack found in almost every Street corner of West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar. The Jhal Muri is literally translated as Spicy Rice Puff. This is a very popular snack for time pass when you are traveling by train in the Western part of India. It’s a quick and easy snack and has rich flavors of Mustard Oil, Potato, and tangy spices.

Ingredients –

  • Puffed Rice Mudhi  — 4 cup
  • Boiled Potatoes — 2 cups chopped
  • Onion — one medium size chopped
  • Cucumber — 1 cup chopped
  • Green Chili  — 3 to 4 fine chopped
  • Peanuts — 1 cup  Roasted
  • Lemon juice  — Half lemon of juice
  • Papadi  — 5 to 6 Crushed
  • Roasted Cumin Powder — 1 tsp
  • Chaat Masala  — 1 tsp
  • Dry mango Powder — 1/2 tsp
  • Black salt — 1/2 tsp
  • Salt — as per taste
  • Mustard Oil — 1 to 2 tbsp
  • Coriander, Mint Chutney — 1 tbsp
  • Tamarind Pulp  — 2 tsp
  • Dates and Tamarind sweet Chutney — 1 tbsp * (as per your taste)

Method of Cooking/Preparation- 

  • In a Large bowl combine all the Ingredients except Puffed Rice,  give it a good mix
  • Add puffed rice and mix well.
  • Adjust salt, spice as per your taste

  • Serve the Jhal Muri immediately as a tea time snack along with Masala chai.

(Note – Add puffed rice only before serving else it will become soggy)
